Let’s set the record straight: just because we’re older doesn’t mean we’re ordering “a glass of whatever’s open.” We’re sipping with intention, and with flair. And sometimes, that means clinking glasses with something that tastes like summer vacation in a coupe glass. Don’t you just love it?!

Whether it’s the sunset-orange glow of Aperol or the floral whisper of St. Germain, a good spritz is more than a drink. It’s a vibe. It’s a mood. It’s a toast to the fact that we now have better taste, fewer regrets, and zero patience for watered-down anything (especially friendships).

I don’t really have a favorite, I love them both and have adopted them as my summer favorites, though I must be honest—I drink them in the spring, fall and winter and they’re just as yummy!

The Aperol Spritz traces back to Italy in the early 1900s, when the Aperol aperitivo (a zesty, bittersweet orange liqueur) was created by the Barbieri brothers. It became wildly popular for its low alcohol content and citrusy brightness, basically, a cocktail that lets you be both fun and functional.

St. Germain, on the other hand, is the chic French cousin that arrived fashionably late to the party in 2007. Made from elderflowers harvested by hand in the Alps (yes, it’s fancy), it adds a floral, subtly sweet note to any drink, and maybe even your afternoon outlook.

They are super simple to make, just find a elegant glass and add the few simple ingredients listed below. Both Aperol and St. Germain can be found in most spirits stores.
